Our Highlights

Precision and Accuracy

The process consistently delivers parts within tight tolerances thanks to sharp dies pressing into the sheet metal. Complex shapes are possible.

Quality and Minimal Secondary Work

The cut edges are smooth and clean, often eliminating part deburring. Some minor hole punching, bending, or welding may be needed before parts are ready for assembly or finishing.

Flexibility

Blanking works for many metals, different sheet thicknesses, small to large part sizes, and production runs from prototypes to high volumes. Minimal setups allow easy changeovers.

TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW

About Sheet Metal Blanking

What is Sheet Metal Blanking?

Sheet metal blanking is a highly efficient metal fabrication technique that uses pressed steel rule dies to punch out precise, repeatable parts from sheet metal. In a blanking press, coiled metal or metal sheets are fed into specialty dies that press into the material, cutting multiple parts per stroke with tight dimensional control. Blanking works very fast, outputting high volumes of finished stampings for low cost due to the process's high material usage and quick cycle times. The parts produced require little to no secondary processing since the cut edges are smooth and clean. Blanking excels at making flat or simple-formed geometries out of steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, and brass.

FAQ

Sheet Metal Blanking Buying FAQs

Blanking works for low to medium carbon steels, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, copper, and more. Hardness and ductility determine suitability.
We can handle parts from less than one inch to 20 inches or more in dimension. Thicknesses range from 0.005” to about 1⁄4”, though thinner or thicker is also possible.
Flat forms tend to be simplest, but bent, contoured, and complex shapes are also achievable depending on the blanking press depth and tooling design.
Fineblanking can hold incredibly tight tolerances down to ±0.002”, though ±0.005” to ±0.02” is more typical for standard blanked parts.
Specialized multi-ton steel rule dies made of tool or stainless tool steel are the most common. We may also utilize urethane stripper pads.
We can provide quotes within 6 hours.
We also provide off-press fabricating services like hole punching, forming, welding, grinding, and more to deliver finished components.
Initial specifications would include material type and thickness, annual usage estimate, a technical drawing, and desired lead time—any size, tolerance, or finish requirements.
