introduction

PP+GF(30%) in CNC Machining and Injection Molding

PP+GF30% Part(1)

PP+GF(30%) is a type of composite material that combines the properties of polypropylene with the added strength and stiffness the glass fiber reinforcement provides.

This material has better dimensional stability compared to unfilled polypropylene. The addition of glass fiber reinforcement significantly improves the strength and rigidity of polypropylene. Glass fiber reinforcement helps minimize the material's tendency to warp during CNC machining. It also enhances the material's resistance to high temperatures and abrasion. Additionally, glass fibers help reduce the material's shrinkage during cooling after the CNC machining process. Despite the added reinforcement, PP+GF(30%) remains relatively lightweight.

Glass fibers may speed up tool wear, so we use strong and durable tools. We also use coolants/lubricants to avoid distortion and maintain machining precision. We set the right feed rates and spindle speeds for desired surface quality and tolerances. PP+GF(30%) can have a rougher surface finish than unfilled polypropylene. If a smooth finish is required, we do additional finishing operations. After machining, we inspect the final parts for dimensional accuracy and surface finish. We adjust machining parameters as needed for future runs.

TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW

Basic Knowledge of PP+GF(30%)

What is PP+GF(30%)?

PP+GF(30%) typically refers to a polymer blend consisting of polypropylene (PP) and glass fiber (GF) as a reinforcing material. In this case, the GF content is specified as 30%, meaning that the polymer blend comprises 70% polypropylene and 30% glass fiber by weight. Adding glass fiber to polypropylene can enhance the material's mechanical properties, such as strength, stiffness, and heat resistance.

Polypropylene (PP) is a common thermoplastic used in 3D printing, especially in the automotive industry. However, PP-printed parts lack stiffness and reinforcement. Glass fiber-reinforced polypropylene (GF30 PP) is used to address this. It contains glass fibers, enhancing the base PP material. GF30 PP, available in filament format for 3D printing, is widely used for components exposed to high temperatures, such as engine bay parts. This is due to its high heat resistance, low moisture absorption, and low density, which creates lightweight yet large parts.

FAQ

Machining PP+GF(30%) Buying FAQ

PP+GF(30%) is generally considered a cost-effective material. While the cost may be higher than standard PP, it offers improved mechanical properties. The addition of glass fiber (GF) enhances its strength and rigidity.
PP+GF(30%) is generally known for its increased strength and impact resistance due to the addition of glass fiber. While it may not be entirely immune to breakage, the presence of glass fiber enhances its overall toughness and reduces the likelihood of breakage compared to standard PP.
PP+GF(30%) typically has a density higher than water, so it tends to sink rather than float. The specific gravity of the material will depend on the exact formulation and the percentage of glass fiber added. Generally, materials with glass fiber are denser than their unfilled counterparts.
Adding glass fiber to PP increases its melting point and improves heat resistance. PP+GF(30%) is less prone to melting at lower temperatures than standard PP.
