introduction

Stainless Steel Nitronic 60 in CNC Machining

cnc-stainless-steel-N60-part(1)

Nitronic 60 is a type of stainless steel strengthened with nitrogen throughout its structure, providing enhanced strength across the entire material.

It offers corrosion resistance similar to 316 stainless steel but with up to twice the yield strength. Nitronic alloys are a cost-effective choice for wear and galling resistance compared to nickel and cobalt alloys. It is commonly used in fasteners, valve components, pins, bushings, bearings, shafts, and rings. To cut costs on Nitronic 60 CNC machining, think about its use – it can be cheaper than other alloys, but machining is costly. Due to Nitronic 60's tougher machining, we design parts to fit existing stock sizes to save on material and machining expenses.

Nitronic 60 has good machinability but tends to work-harden during machining, so we use coated carbide tools and maintain proper cutting speeds to minimize work hardening. We also use coolant to prevent excessive tool wear and workpiece overheating. We do proper workholding to ensure dimensional accuracy and good surface finish. We also do passivation to increase its corrosion resistance.
